Jim McPherson's PHANTACEA Mythos

Full covers for the latest PHANTACEA Mythos print publications

This cell's background image is a blurry version of the front cover for "The War of the Apocalyptics", as adjusted by Jim McPherson, 2009; the page background image is much the same; the cover artwork for the two most recent PHANTACEA Mythos print publications are as credited in the adjacent panel ; as for the characters depicted on War-Pox's front cover, that's here;

Individual copies of "Feeling Theocidal" and "The War of the Apocalyptics" can be ordered from amazon.com and its affiliates, including amazon.ca and amazon.co.uk, as well as from Barnes & Noble. Libraries, bookstores and bookseller collectives can place bulk orders through Ingram Books, Ingram International, Baker & Taylor, and a large number of other distributors worldwide.

Of course you can always email or send me your order(s) via surface mail. No matter where you live or what currency you prefer to use, I'll figure out a way to fill your order(s) myself. Just be aware that I can only accept certified cheques or money orders. Plus, I'll have to charge an additional 15% to cover Canadian and provincial goods and sales taxes as well as Canada Post rates for shipping.

I do use bubble mailers, though.

BookFinder.com lists both mosaic novels: "Feeling Theocidal"and "The War of the Apocalyptics". Also listed therein are most of the other PHANTACEA Mythos print publications.

Another interesting option for the curious is Chegg, which has a rent-a-book program. Thus far its search engine shows no results for phantacea (any style or permutation thereof) but it does recognize Jim McPherson (a variety of them) and the titles of the novels.

As for the Whole Earth (other than the Hidden Continent of Sedon's Head, at least as far as I can say), well, this page contains a list of a few other websites where you can probably order the novels in a variety of currencies and with credit cards;

A b/w version of a potential cover for 1000-Daze, as it appears in War-Pox

Black and white version of a potential cover for 1000 Daze, prepared by Jim McPherson, 2009

The first chapter of "The Thousand Days of Disbelief" rounds out "The War of the Apocalyptics", the latest PHANTACEA Mythos print publication; there's a note re Cosimo Tura's 'Allegory of Spring' here;

it's sometimes thought to be of Calliope, the muse of heroic poetry, due to the writing implement in her hand; in PHANTACEA-pHact I took the writing implement to be the Legendarian's quill, as per here;

Henry Fuseli's Great Night is behind her; I take her to represent Primeval Lilith, the Demon Queen of the Night, the animus (in all senses of the word) behind the actions of Master Morgan Abyss, the Master of Weir who appears in the first section of the novel;

Cover Collage for 1000 Daze, prepared by Jim McPherson, 2009

Among the real life characters who may appear fictitiously in 1000-Daze include Hieronymous Bosch and Albrecht Durer;

both were alive when the second section of the novel takes place; both may have produced some of their most famous pieces based on experiences they had on Sedon's Head (rather, they may have had within the context of the PHANTACEA Mythos);

there are plenty of Bosch's nightmare scenes in this collage, though the head in the bottom of it may be by a pseudo-Bosch; the Fuseli is of, as per here, Great Night whereas the woman on the dolphin throne is, as per here and here, by Tura; the other images are, as per here and here, by Durer;

Datong Harmonia features prominently throughout 'The Thrice-Cursed Godly Glories' trilogy

Datong Harmonia, collage by Jim McPherson ,2009

Albrecht Durer's Melancholia has always reminded me of the Unity of Balance as she appears in 1000-Daze; the grave marker of a Roman woman preserved in the Met Museum in New York City also bears a striking resemblance to Harmony; there's a spoiler note re the Unity here;

the rest of the images in this collage - Death, the Devil and the 4 Horsemen (one of whom, the one wielding the Scales of Justice, is actually a woman) - are also by Durer; there are some notes re Durer's Apocalyptics, Death and his Devil here;

in phantacea there is (arguably) only one Devil (capitalized) and that's the Moloch Sedon; the second, third and fourth generational devazurs are just devils (small case)

Kronokronos Akbarartha

The Dragon of Versailles also appears in Centurium, the central cavern of Temporis, shot by Jim McPherson, text and layout ditto the

The evidently long-lived half-son of Dand Tariqartha, a Lazaremist, and Pyrame Silverstar, a Mithradite, the Awesome Akbar has spent considerable time beyond the Dome;

over the decades out there he has been known by a number of different names; in the first section of "The War of the Apocalyptics" he goes by Obadiah Melvin Power, though his supra-codename is Old Man Power;

I shot the dragon in the gardens of Versailles, which, in the PHANTACEA Mythos, the Time-Space Displacer replicated within Centurium, the central cavern of his devic protectorate, Subcranial Temporis;

Sea Goddess

Image suggestive of Thalassa D'Angelo, prepared by Jim McPherson, 2010

Early on in War-Pox, a Byronic occasionally called Devil Wind (Vayu Maelstrom) asserts that Thalassa D'Angelo, one of D-Brig's Elemental Twins, is actually Thalassa Thanatos, a fourth generational devil;

he may be right about that; then again he may be wrong; there's more on Thalassa here;

Wilderwitch

Wilderwitch in Mexico City

Although generally speaking she's more bare than barely dressed, the Witch usually does wear clothes; as for her air-arrows, they're just one aspect of the arsenal she employs as a member of D-Brig during "The War of the Apocalyptics";

there's more on the Witch here, here and here

Radiant Rider

Collage suggestive of Glory of the Angels, prepared by Jim McPherson

Gloriel D'Angelo Dark is not one of the Godly Glories; at least she isn't officially; she is, however, a member of the Damnation Brigade and, for whatever reason, her little angels do seem to appear in "The Thousand Days of Disbelief";

there's a feature on her here; how she's described at the beginning of War-Pox is here; there's another note on her here; and how she would have looked had I published Phase One #2 is here;

Book Three of the 'The Thrice-Cursed Godly Glories' trilogy may appear as early as late 2010

Corner graphic for The Trigregos Gambit Ga

As for whether any members of the Damnation Brigade will survive War-Pox long enough to finally die in Gambit, well, as of right now I have to say: No!

Raven's Head

Raven's Head collage, prepared by Jim McPherson, 2009

Appears primarily in War-Pox; however, ravendeer are mentioned in Feel Theo, wherein a deviated creature known as Hinny the Hippy (a psychopomp that is part ravendeer and part Pegasus) plays an important role throughout;

a Raven's Head, could the very first (unless the at least semi-sentient beast is immortal and Blind Sundown rides the same one), appears in and on the cover of "Forever & 40 Days - The Genesis of PHANTACEA"

The background image for this page is a blurry version of Ian Bateson's front cover for "The War of the Apocalyptics", as adjusted by Jim McPherson, 2009; the setting is Damnation Isle in the Aleutians; the characters depicted are Demon Land (Antaeor Thanatos) and Devil Wind (Vayu Maelstrom); the cover is a variation of one prepared by Ian Bateson for PHANTACEA Phase One #2 circa 1986; there's more re the Phase One project here
