Now available from Phantacea Publications

"Goddess Gambit"

In print as well as in a variety of e-book formats

In addition to concluding the Glories trilogy, Gambit picks up from where "Janna Fangfingers" left off. As such, it eventually carries on the Launch 1980 story cycle that began in 2009 with "The War of the Apocalyptics".

At 276 pages, including a brief Auctorial Prefatory, the book is considerably longer than any of the other mosaic novels or mini-novels featuring Jim McPherson's phantacea Mythos thus far released.

Suggested list price: $25.00 CAD or USD.

- 'The Thrice-Cursed Godly Glories' - Book Three

Starting at the end of November 1980 (Maruta 5980 Year of the Dome), its ensemble cast includes many characters new to Phantacea Publications, though not to the phantacea Mythos.

pdf with 2012 pricelist, prepared by Jim McPhersonAmong them are the fabulous, if fearsome, ever-fishifying Fisherwoman (Scylla Nereid, now over 60 but as formidable as ever), the Hellions' late 60th Century Morrigan (Superior Sarpedon), her husband and fellow Summoning Child Demios (once code-named the Ace of Spades) and her year-older brother, the Master of Weir since 5950 (Saladin Devason).

Colour and b/w ads prepared by Jim McPherson for the release of Goddess Gambit, 2012; artwork by Verne Andru, 2012Welcome back the Legendarian (Jordan 'Q for Quill' Tethys), Bodiless Byron's Firstborn Silverclouds (Savage Storm and Lunar Uma), the Thanatoid Death Gods of Lathakra (King Cold and the Scarlet Empress) and a certain next-to-never-remembered Smiling Fiend (who may or may not yet prove to be the Moloch Sedon slumming).

Why are earthborn demons fighting against the Living and why are Hellion Witches fighting against demons? Aren't they supposed to be allies? They were in Feel Theo, which took place on Mithramas Day 4376, and still were throughout the seven hundred or so years (4824-5495 YD) covered during 1000-Daze — what's changed?

Who is Freespirit Nihila? To her exceedingly short-lived regret, didn't Herta Heartthrob encounter someone very similar, perhaps even identical, to her in Contagion, circa 5476?

Did any members of the Damnation Brigade survive the War of the Apocalyptics? For that matter, did any of the Apocalyptics?

No matter ...

If they're alive and dare trifle with them, Nergal Vetala, the Blood Queen of Hadd, and her soldier, her champion, the Trigregos Titan, whoever he is, will happily kill them.

They'll kill anyone who seeks to play let alone win a Trigregos Gambit at their expense.

Kill them then command their corpses to rise up and kill the more!

Just as happily, "The Death's Head Hellion" and "Contagion Collectors" are available everywhere at $10.00 each. Being longer than its predecessors, "Janna Fangfingers" still goes for the highly reasonable price of $12.00 CAD and USD.

Unfortunately, Phantacea Publications cannot as yet be ordered from the publisher by credit card. (Cheques and money orders only, please.)

Back of Sedonic Eye Postcard, prepared by Jim McPherson, 2011Devils in Disguise collage prepared by Jim McPherson, 2011The same as the two thus-far-published, full-length mosaic novels featuring Jim McPherson's Phantacea Mythos, "Feeling Theocidal" and "The War of the Apocalyptics", 1000-Daze is set in large measure on the Hidden Continent of Sedon's Head.

Its ensemble cast traces, at the top of the food chain, Thrygragos Everyman and his firstborn Unities (the incomparable Harmony, Thunder & Lightning Lord Order and Uncle Abe Chaos) from the unsurpassed heights of their freewheeling unity to the abysmal depths of their inevitably catastrophic disunity.

All three mini-novels contain book-specific character companions. In the 'Anheroic Fantasy Illustrated' tradition of the decades-gone phantacea comic books and graphic novel, augmented versions of these companions are online.

In its entirety 1000-Daze constitutes Book Two of 'The Thrice-Cursed Godly Glories'. A growing selection of lynx to out-takes from all three parts of the overall novel can be found here.

The cover for War of the Apocalyptics, Ian Bateson, 2009, with a rollover of an alternative cover for the same book prepared by Jim McPherson, 2003The front cover for Feeling Theocidal, artwork by Verne Andru, 2008, with a rollover collage prepared by Jim McPherson, 2008, for the same book

"Feeling Theocidal -- Thrygragon, Year of the Dome 4376" (Book One of 'The Thrice-Cursed Godly Glories' trilogy), "The War of the Apocalyptics" (the first full-length entry in the Launch 1980 story cycle), the three mini-novels making up "The 1000 Days of Disbelief" (Book Two of 'The Thrice-Cursed Godly Glories'), "Goddess Gambit" (Book Three of the trilogy and in some respects the second – unless it's the third – entry in the Launch 1980 story sequence) and "Nuclear Dragons" (the second, full-length entry in the Launch 1980 story sequence) should be available at neighbourhood bookstores and public libraries all over the world.

"Janna Fangfingers", the third and final mini-novel comprising 1000-Daze, rather cleverly doubles as a prequel to both Gambit and the Launch 1980 story cycle. In its turn, Endgame-Gambit picks up from where War-Pox leaves off. Part Three of "Nuclear Dragons" connects to both War-Pox and Gambit. Parts One, Two and Four of Nuke also nicely sets up "Helios on the Moon", the last scheduled sequence in the Launch 1980 story cycle.

E-versions of Feel Theo, Hellion, Contagion,Fangers, War-Pox and Gambit are available on the Kindle format exclusively from amazon.com, amazon.co.uk and some of amazon's other European and Asian affiliates.

Kindle e-books can be downloaded for I-Pads and I-Phones as well as a number of other devices. Many have text-to-voice capacity for the visually challenged.

Phantacea Publications e-books are also available in a variety of other formats. Please check your favourite online bookstore to download Phantacea Publications e-books to the device of your choice.

If you don't see the novels or mini-novels displayed at your local book stops, kindly direct purchasing agents and/or booksellers to www.phantacea.com in order to help them rectify such a sad situation.

Libraries, bookstores and bookseller collectives can place bulk orders through Ingram Books, Ingram International, Coutts Information (and Library) Services, Baker & Taylor, and a large network of other distributors worldwide.

Some of the Phantacea comics and graphic novels can be ordered through Drive Thru Comics.

BookFinder.com lists both of the original versions of the mosaic novels: "Feeling Theocidal" and "The War of the Apocalyptics". Also listed therein are most of the other PHANTACEA Mythos print publications.

Another interesting option for the curious is Chegg, which has a rent-a-book program. Thus far its search engine shows no results for phantacea (any style or permutation thereof) but it does recognize Jim McPherson (a variety of them) and the titles of the novels.

As for the Whole Earth (other than the Hidden Continent of Sedon's Head, at least as far as I can say), this page contains a list of a few other websites where you can probably order the novels in a variety of currencies and with credit cards.

Phantacea Publications (James H. McPherson, Publisher), presents a PHANTACEA Mythos Graphic Novel

A rip-roaring outburst of creativity featuring Jim McPherson’s taut storytelling and spectacular artwork gleaned from the pages of Phantacea 1-5 (1977-1980), Phantacea Phase One #1 (1987) and #2 (unpublished), it presents the stirring saga of extraterrestrial Shining Ones and the doomed but unyielding Damnation Brigade.

Anheroic Fantasy Illustrated, with a wraparound cover by Phantacea’s master colourist Ian Bateson and 120 pages of interior artwork in glorious black and white by a wide variety of exceptional artists often at the very beginning of their careers, the two-part Phantacea Revisited series reveals how Jim McPherson’s ongoing Phantacea Mythos really got underway.

Artists featured in the graphic novel include Dave Sim (from just before he began to publish Cerebus the Aardvark), the aforementioned Ian Bateson, Verne Andru (creator of ‘420’), Vince Marchesano, various Day brothers and George Freeman (‘Captain Canuck’).

No wonder they call themselves the Damnation Brigade

Spherized detail from potential cover for DG:RV1, prepared by Jim McPherson, artwork by Ian Bateson, 2012

In his youth, as per the 1938 Web Serials, Dervish Furie was known as a Werewolf in Shorts.

As for OMP (Old Man Power), none of D-Brig knew to call him Kronokronos Akbarartha until late 5980, Year of the Dome.

Cyborg Cerebrus and Gloriel (Gloriella nee D'Angelo Dark) are the two other members of D-Brig herein depicted.

Out of the Grey ... Into the Blue

Variation of cover from DB:RV1, prepared by Jim McPherson, artwork by Ian Bateson, 2012

Six of the ten members of the Damnation Brigade are depicted in this shot. They are: Wildman Dervish Furie, Wilderwitch, Sea Goddess, Raven's Head, Blind Sundown and their nominal leader, David 'Cerebrus' Ryne.

(Gloriel, the Diver, Airealist and OMP-Akbar are missing in this detail. The first and last named feature here whereas the other two appear here.)

There's a photo essay on all ten of them here.

Damnation! Stop this Farce

2009 D Brig Collage, prepared by Jim McPherson

The two snippets of comic book artwork incorporated within this image will be seen anew come the long-awaited release of the first Phantacea Revisited graphic novel (Rv1:DB).

The snippet used for Raven's Head is of one of her 6,000 years removed ancestors.

It came from the cover of the 1990 graphic novel: "Forever & 40 Days -- The Genesis of Phantacea".

Details re most of the other graphics that went into this ancient collage are here. Read it at your peril, though, as it's laden with spoilers.

The Devil and the DB-3

Variations of cover for DB:RV1, prepared by Jim McPherson, artwork by Ian Bateson, 2012

Could have said the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, I suppose. Except Sea (Sea Goddess) is only one of three members of the Damnation Brigade pictured in this detail.

Also depicted are the Untouchable Diver and Sea's twin, the Airealist (Aires to her Thalassa D'Angelo). The titular devil is Devil Wind.

He goes by Vayu Maelstrom in the Phantacea Mythos but not just Pre-Columbian Mesoamericans knew him best as 'Hurican' (I've also seen it spelled as 'Urican'), hence 'hurricane'.
